Two little monkeys

009Lily was given a monkey for her first birthday (thank you Esther) that she has always really loved.  It is actually as big as she is with long skinny arms and legs.  She has recently taken to asking for it at night and wanting to make sure that she AND the monkey are both covered.  He doesn't have a name, never has and probably never will.  He is just monkey.

We were at the mall in Champaign the other day and while in Gymboree  Jacob discovered his version of monkey.  008 He latched on to it and would not let go of it.  He dragged it around the whole store and threw the biggest fit whenever anyone tried to touch it.  Usually I don't tolerate the gimme fits that the kids have BUT Jake has never really shown any interest in any kind of blanket or stuffed animal.  I figured it wouldn't hurt this time so we got the monkey and he dragged it around everywhere with him all day.  We have since been able to convince him to leave the monkey in bed and do all the cuddling he wants at night or during naptime.  So now we are tucking two kids into bed, side by side (they always want to share a bed), with two monkeys to cover.  I have to say that it is pretty sweet.

Summerfest #3

We had a very relaxing time yesterday at summerfest.  I am getting so uncomfortable now that the idea of playing any of the games was not appealing so I spent the entire afternoon sitting comfy.  It was at a park this time instead of a home so the kids were thrilled to be able to swing, slide, play in the sand/dirt, collect sticks, pretend to be ostriches?? (not sure what the plural is here), and do kiddie bowling.  All the kids climbed up on the slide and we got a picture of them.  Lily is at the top.

Also, there was a ventriloquist who did part of the Celebration/Rally day festivities (also yesterday) and Lily just loved it.  She was so excited to hear the grandpa puppet talking about her during one of the songs...  It was great.

I do have to also mention that we have just been so blessed by this church.  The ladies here have really blessed us.  They have organized meals to be brought to our house 2 days a week for the next few weeks until the baby is born and they have offered to help me with the kids during church.  They are also doing a baby shower on the 6th for us!  They have really done all more than you can imagine to really make us feel like we are a part of the family here.  We really appreciate everything that they have done.

To Do List

I came up with a list of about 30 projects that I want to get done around the house...none of which are necessary and all of which are just really fun.  I got the first two done today...Lily's curtains are finished and hanging in her room.  She really enjoyed helping me sew them up this morning.  All of the pin removal was her responsibility and she took it really seriously.  Jacob on the other hand was not as helpful as his sister.  His favorite thing to do was to keep turning off the sewing machine while I was trying to get them done.  Obviously sewing isn't his thing.

Grandma Time!

We had a really fun weekend with my mom.  She came out on Friday morning, Joe and the kids got her at the train station and left on Tuesday morning.  We took her to the train stop and found out that the train was going to be about an hour late so we sat there, playing on the platform watching all of the other trains go by and took a short little jaunt to McDonalds for the ever indulgent ice cream break at 9:20 in the morning.

We had a great time while she was here.  We did a lot of visiting and she spent her time spoiling the kids rotten.  All in all a typical grandma visit.

I spent some time working on the quilt while she was here.  I am going to see if it can get done by Christmas this year.  I need it to be done now so that I can move on to a new project.  Joe has helped me periodically over the last 4 years with it but this weekend is the first time that I was able to get a picture of him working on it.  I love that he is supportive of the things that I like doing.  :)  He likes to be able to say that he helped with this particular project.002

Best Husband Ever

I just have to say right now that I think I am the luckiest person in the world.  I have 2 beautiful children and a husband that is incredible.

Case in point....last night I had a really bad night and didn't get that much sleep.  (Baby #3 is not my friend at night)  I wake up this morning to hear the bathtub running and Joe in there with Jake.  Kind of surprised that he was getting a bath in the morning I lay there for a few minutes trying to wake up and listening to the conversation occurring two doors down.  I heard Jake talking about something being "yucky" and then saying "mommy" and Joe saying "yes, it's yucky but mommy is sleeping".  Curious, I get up and walk down the hall and as I am walking I get assaulted by the most awful smell.

Joe had gotten up, gone into Jake's room to get him up and found him covered in diarrhea.  Disgusting!  So he calmly gets Jake, takes him into the bathroom, cleans him up, and then runs a bath for him.  Yes, the things that you do as a parent.  However, he did it all without me hearing him or calling me to help out.  Yes, I love Joe!

I have always been so impressed with Jacob and his eating habits.  He is the child that prefers fruits and vegetables and all things healthy over say, a hot dog.  Last night we had chicken and corn...just your basic...and he went to town on it.  I snapped a couple of pics because the look on his face was sheer pleasure.  I have to say that I love food as much as he does so I can understand the need to look like this as you eat.  001

He didn't want the one that was precut chicken.  He wanted the skewer just like everyone else.

This is concentration.  He actually ate the whole thing.  There were two strips on the skewer, plus corn, and also some zucchini (all done on the grill)!  I love it!

Lily, today after lunch.  She thinks that she is really cool.  she is pointing her fingers and making clicking noises with her tongue.  Seen that anywhere??001

Potty training dilemmas

Jacob had decided that the potty is not the most evil thing in the world.  In fact, he seems to really enjoy sitting on the potty and trying to go.  He has told me that he needs to go and taken his diaper off so we are going to give this a try while the interest is there.  We went and bought pull-ups and underwear and now are in the throes of potty training.   Trying to find underwear that would fit him was a chore of unbelievable proportions.  He must have the worlds tiniest butt because everything I found is too big.  We have washed on hot water and dried on high and they now stay up at least.

Here is the problem...I haven't experienced the whole little boy potty thing and it seems to be very different for a little girl.  I have struggled with the sit or stand, either way he seems to pee all over the floor.  I don't know if this is something that corrects itself as time goes on and he gets more comfortable with it or if we are not doing something right.

Here is my plea...any of you with boys or any of you that know someone with a boy please tell me what worked best.  I am getting tired of cleaning up more pee on the floor than what actually made it into the toilet.

Brett Favre

brett favreI am not a football person by any means.  I am sure that Joe gets tired of explaining things to me over and over.  However...I must say that the Brett Favre situation seemingly being over is a great relief.  I am so tired of seeing the headlines and hearing his most recent drama on the radio.  I have to say that I am glad it is done and he is traded to the Jets.  It has always bothered me that he seems to think that there is nothing wrong with threatening retirement year after year and not following through and letting his team move on.  As a 38 year old football player who is definitely past his prime he needs to let the Packers move on and explore other options.  Thank goodness they decided to hold him to his promise of retirement this year and not let him back on the team.

Anyway, enough of the tirade.  All's well that ends well.

Gas Prices

What is gas where you are?  This is the lowest we have seen it in awhile.001  It was actually exciting!  How sad.

Fun with Auntie Ruthie!

Ruthie came to see us yesterday for a quick little trip and we all had lots of fun.  A few pics of our time together...

A little cuddle time with the godmother... He loves to be held at night when he is tired.003

Playing on the weird little stepping stools.  He wasn't quite big enough to reach the next one on his own.006   Lily had a lot of fun there too.  Somehow she always looks like an orphan child when we are outside playing.  It's gotta be the flyaway hair. :)009

They raced to see who would win.  Obviously Lily was the winner.  Maybe because she always starts everything before you say "GO"!  013

Jake was SUPER excited to see the numerous airplanes that flew over us as we ate lunch there.  Lily liked the 2 ambulances and 1 firetruck that screamed by us with the sirens and lights going.

Auntie Ruthie is too cool.  Jake loved watching her get up there and flip.  You will not catch me doing that....

We cant' wait for the next visit!

Lily is Famous...

Vacation Bible School is over.  We have all been feeling a little mixed about this.  It makes our life a little easier to not rush out the door in the evening for VBS but Lily really misses the interaction with the other kids and the fun activities that she got to do there.

The local paper in town The Watseka Times Republic went to do an article on what was going on there and took a bunch of pictures and wrote a little article.  Lily made one of the pics and so did Joe.  You will have to check it out.  I am not exactly sure where the link will take you so she is in the July 31st issue on page 5.  Joe made one of the pictures as well.  Hopefully this works.  I am new to the whole hyperlink thing.

These are just some of the pictures from the last night of VBS.  Enjoy!005
