Chaos in the Dapelo House!

Lots of crazy stuff going on this past week.

First, Lily was playing computer games and spilled water on the mouse part of the laptop. Sadly, as soon as I cleaned it up the screen went totally dark. After a trip to Best Buy and the FABULOUS Geek Squad,  we found out that our motherboard was fried. So, sadly we had no computer.

Second, I got a crazy fever and horrible abdominal pain on Wednesday night, after seeing two doctors and getting labs done on Thursday I was admitted to the hospital for an appendectomy. Fortunately, after doing a CT and some more tests I was released the next day with all of my organs intact.

Third, because of the possible surgery Ruthie and Josh drove out to see us and help me take care of the kids. It was nice to see them again. They spent the weekend here and went back home on Sunday. They did, however, bring us a solution to our first problem. Apparently there was a seminarian that my dad is in school with that had a computer that he was looking to get rid of so Ruthie and Josh brought it out with them getting us back up and running. That has been SO WONDERFUL! Josh also helped us get the hard drive out of the old one and we are going to see if we can resurrect the dead. Here’s hoping and praying.

Fourth, Lily got her 4 year old shots on Monday and has not been the same since. She wanted to stay home from school today which I think is a first for her. So, Joe went out to pay her tuition and her teacher very kindly sent some of their projects home for her to do here. She enjoyed “playing” school with mommy and Jake today. She does want to go tomorrow. Unfortunately, there is no school tomorrow so we will deal with that one when we get to it. Hannah also woke up this morning with some sort of weird “slapped face” look and has been HORRIBLY congested all day. She is not her usual cheerful self so we will see what tomorrow brings.

That’s it for tonight. As I get more programs installed back onto the computer I may get to the camera stuff to get photos back on. Hopefully we didn’t lose everything that we had on the hard drive.

Happy Brthday!

Birthdays have come and gone now. Lily is already beginning to plan next years party. She better be a party planner when she grows up! We both had a wonderful time. Joe spoils us…

He made some delicious waffles for breakfast and then my fave dinner-mashed potatoes, meatballs, and gravy! Thank you for my birthday pie Larry! It was great!

Lily took our picture…she is getting to be pretty good!

The big 4 year old heading off to school! She got to be the “leader” on her birthday and that was pretty much the most exciting thing for her!

We all picked her up from school and Joe gave her a pink rose and a balloon! She was so excited! We all headed over to Burger King for some playtime in the playplace. She decided that she wanted donuts for breakfast, BK for lunch and french toast with scrambled eggs for dinner.

Birthday girls with treasures from dad/Joe! He is so sweet! Here’s to one more year!

We went to the Exploration Station yesterday with Christie, Madeline and Lauren. We had a good time running around with the kids. Hannah was awake the whole time we were there. I think that is a first!

Madeline aka. The Soda Jerk

Lily aka. The Paleontologist

Lauren Jo aka. The Great Explorer in the pirate ship.

002Jacob aka. The Aviator

Christie and Hannah aka. The Jailbirds.

We were sorry to see them leave but will be seeing them again soon I am sure. The girls had a great time. Thanks again for coming! See you at Easter??? :)

The Party!

Lily had her birthday party with her friends yesterday and it was lots of fun. All her friends weren’t able to come but we still had a great time. Matt, Christie, and the 2 little girls came out in the morning and spent the day with us yesterday and today. We all went to Kankakee to…you guessed it…the Exploration Station and then said goodbye to them there.

Intently painting her pot and blowing out the birthday candles…all out in one breath!

Lily on her new bike and Hannah enjoying the beautiful weather.

All the friends…Jake was NOT feeling well at all. He slept most of the day and cuddled when he was awake. It was a really fun day! The girls all had fun running around, playing dress up, painting, and playing on the swings. I find it so hard to believe that my little baby is almost 4 years old now! Just a few more days…

6 Months Old!

Our little Banana is 6 months old now! It is so crazy how fast time has flown by!

She is still extremely happy. It isn’t unusual to hear her cracking up over something. We get concerned when she looks unhappy at all! She loves to watch her brother and sister and tries to pull their hair whenever it is within reach. She is VERY into toys now and always wants to be playing. She is by far the best sleeper that we have ever had. She is happiest in her own bed and still sleeps through the night! Hopefully this never changes!023

She is getting really big and always tries to sit whenever she can. She loves to scoot around on her back by planting her little feet. She usually can get anywhere that she wants to go by doing that although sometimes she ends up going in circles when she forgets that she has two legs. She is 14 lbs 10 oz now and in the 25% for both weight and height. She seems so big to us but is really just a little peanut. DapeloFamily-Feb09-002b01

She still doesn’t have any teeth. I know I keep saying that they are so close but seriously…we can see them! They just haven’t broken through yet so the drool is INCREDIBLE!!! She loves food. There aren’t really any that she doesn’t like now. She has graduated to the stage 2 jars because she is so ravenous. We are getting ready to try a sippy cup soon!

She had her first casualty yesterday. She was sleeping on our bed and managed to flip herself off of it face down onto the hardwood floors. She had a horrible bloody nose and a goose egg on her head so I ran her over to the dr just to make sure that she was ok. He told us that she had gotten a mild concussion and we just needed to monitor her closely over the next 24 hours. She really wasn’t that happy to be woken up every 2 hours but today is totally fine-minus some bruising and a really stuffy nose.

We can’t wait to see all the changes this month… More to come later.

The first sign of SPRING!

We have had a few beautiful days recently. The kids have loved the great outdoors and have not wanted to spend any time indoors. I can’t really blame them seeing as they have been cooped up inside for the past 4 months.

After some MAJOR crafting…

092And some fun St Patricks Day activities…

Notice the green eggs and green pancakes. They also had their choice of green koolaid or green milk.  We had corned beef, cabbage, potatoes, and carrots for dinner. No picture of that though.

They went outside to play and we found this…

Lily exclaims… “Look Mom, it’s the first sign of spring!” I am not sure where she heard that but she is so right! She immediately ran around and picked all the ones she could find that had bloomed. Now I have a teacup with some slightly mangled flowers in it on my table. They are beautiful and it is the thought that counts, right? Hopefully the weather holds through the weekend and Lily’s party will be outside! :)

Off to the Emerald City

We went to Chicago today to experience St Patricks Day in all its splendor. We left home before 8, drove to Midway, got on the L, and then walked down 2 flights of extremely scary stairs to get to street level. Did I mention that we went down the stairs with a double stroller containing 2 children, a carseat, a diaper bag, a cooler, and a second bag containing all of the drinks, all the coats and 2 blankets? We were trying to fit the kitchen sink but ran out of room with the rest of the house in there! We decided to forego watching the dye actually go into the river in favor of finding the primo spot on the parade route. Matt, Christie and kids came with the mad hordes of people rushing to the parade following the dyeing of the river. We watched the parade and watched the parade and watched the parade! It was fun but after awhile we decided that we were done. There seemed to be more walking “groups” than anything else…ie. plumbers union 131 etc.  It was a really fun day, a big thank you to Matt for bringing the corned beef sandwiches! Delish… After we ditched the parade we walked over to the river to experience it in all its emerald glory and then back to the L, up the flights of stairs with 2 sleeping kids and all of the stuff, so on and so forth.

Super fun day! Totally worth the experience!006

Oh, and I forgot to mention that Madeline and Lauren showed up wearing the EXACT same outfit as Lily! How does that happen? They were passing out candy, hats, ice cream and beads and I think the girls got stuff because they were so cute. One women that brought them candy commented on the cute “twins” (Lily and Madeline). They also got their picture taken by some parade person with a ginormous camera. We’ll have to see if it makes it into anything. SO FUN!!!!! 036079

    Road Closings

Route 1 and 24 West Junction in Watseka is closed as of 8am Thursday morning & South 2nd in Watseka is across 1 lane as of 5:30 Thursday.

Officials are asking people to go around Watseka. Cable Line is for local traffic only and there is still a 5 Ton Weight Limit on all county roads, including Cable Line and 2100 which is the way most people take around. Big trucks find alternate routes…which would be Rt 1 to 52 to Sheldon.

Many side roads in Watseka are covered with water and impassable.

    Concord Township

    3020E North of 2000 North

    2420 E South of 1400 North - Bridge Out

    Other Info

Sandbags are available at Peoples Redi Mix and availability is up to the city.

Due to water around the building, Nettie Davis will not have school today (March 12th). Other buildings will have student attendance as usual.

Big R is opening an hour early for those in need of emergency supplies.

This is the warning from the local radio station.  All the water that we are getting inundated with is not from rain here but from rain in Indiana that has run into the river here.  The catch basins can’t hold it back any longer.  Yesterday they said that the flood bank is 18 ft and they were predicting that the water was going to reach 26 ft today. The street in front of our house is closed now because we have a catch basin on the corner and apparently the back flaps aren’t doing their job.

Of course it doesn’t help that it is about 20 degrees outside. The water is starting to freeze and make some pretty awesome ice! I don’t think I have seen this many city workers out since we moved here. They keep coming out to measure the water…I think. I heard on the news that we actually got more water than when we had the AWFUL flood last year in January. I think we are better off this year because the ground is a lot softer than it was then and a lot of the water is able to be absorbed into the ground and also because after the flood last year they put in some new safety measures. Hopefully it goes down soon.  We have sandbags…just in case!

Yesterday was so BEAUTIFUL! I think our high was 70 degrees! I had to hunt for clothes that were suitable for summer and then we spent a large portion of the day outdoors. Again, Hannah wasn’t too sure what to think at first of the sunshine, breezes, and nature in general but she WASN’T disappointed! The kids had a blast playing on the swingset, the disgusting sandbox that is getting thrown away, the grass, and of course last years kiddy pool. Lily freaked out a little at first about not wearing shoes and socks but got over it quickly. We ended up walking over to the church and encountered ladies that were just leaving the World Day of Prayer service. Unfortunately, I was in “playclothes” with no shoes. Just one more lesson to me. ALWAYS dress to impress.  You never know who will see you. :) It took a little convincing (amidst the tears) to convince the kids to come inside at 5:30.  They got bathed and then after I fixed their plates of food and went to get them I found this…052

They were so tired! I am proud to say that they were both asleep BEFORE 7:00. I can’t wait for summer to come for real!

Applesauce Cookies

My daughter LOVES to be a part of anything going on in the kitchen and we often “cook” together.  I think she may be the “next big thing” on the food network! How many almost 4 year olds do you know that can come up with a recipe like this? :)

Applesauce Cookies by Lily Dapelo

1 tsp sugar

1 cup baking powder

1 bunch butter

1 tsp applesauce

1/2 tsp salt

3 eggs

Mix it all together right and bake it for 3 minutes in a hot oven. Make sure to put frosting on top.

No joke, this is word for word! I LOVE that Lily does this!

I just have to pat myself on the back a little… I made 2 pies the other day for the Lenten suppers at the church the other day and am so proud! They turned out really well! I have never been the pie baker, just the pie consumer. My dad has always considered pie to be the food of heaven and I have to say that I am right there with him.  I, however, have always been afraid of making them. Something about the pie crust was just so intimidating.  Anyway, when my mom was here a few weeks ago I begged her to teach me the art of the perfect pie crust.  I did my first solo run this week and they worked out pretty well. I was also able to finish a tablecloth that I have been wanting to do for awhile now. So happy to be done!

002 005 Hannah decided that it would be fun to play with the scraps of fabric while I was finishing the tablecloth. :) Such a cute little spaz.

004All in all, a really fun day and the finished products were just what I needed for that really SATISFIED feeling! :)

I’m doing it!

I have been inspired to try something by my friend Emily.  So here goes….

This is open to anyone who reads my blog!

The first FIVE people to respond to this post will get something made by yours truly!!

I get to chose what it is, and make it just for YOU!!

However, this offer does have some restrictions and limitations

1- I make no guarantees that you will like what I make! (although I'm hoping you do!)

2- What I create will be just for you.

3- It will be done this year. (before December 31, 2009!)

4- You have no clue what it's going to be. I enjoy sewing, scrapbooking and even cooking!

There is one little catch. You must re-post this on YOUR blog, facebook, or whatever you use to contact the masses and make the same offer to the first 5 people who respond on your blog entry, thereby continuing the fun! (Keep it local if you would like, however you want to do it is fine.)

The first 5 people to leave a comment telling me they will be posting this on their blog will win a special something made by me!

Be sure to post a picture of what your handmade prize when you get it!

Should be a fun and interesting little experiment and I am hoping that God will use it as a blessing too. :)
