The Belated Party!

The belated birthday party for Joe on Sunday afternoon:

The kids wanted a “Go Giants” cake for Joe. They decorated this side…

They told me what to do on this side.

Hannah was a ham as usual. She is EAGERLY anticipating her birthday! Or should I say PRESENTS??!!

Please may I have a nickel?

We are on to Plan X…

Lincoln Park Zoo

On Saturday we went to the Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago. I was pretty excited to go and get the kids out of the house. We got there in the afternoon and walked around. It was interesting. I wasn’t expecting a whole lot since it is a free zoo but there were enough animals to keep the kids happy.

Everything was really open. We walked through some gates and found ourselves out of the zoo and in a beautiful botanical garden. There was a wedding starting there so we boogied out of there and went for a walk to find a place for dinner.

After walking just a few blocks we found D & B’s. We hadn’t been to one of those since the good ol’ CUI days! We went in, had dinner, and Joe got a HUGE piece of chocolate cake and the birthday song! It was fun. The kids were ecstatic with the whole experience. After dinner we walked back through a park on our way to the beach. The kids played at the beach briefly and then we made our way home. It was such a fun afternoon and evening!

BUSY week!

I haven’t gotten to doing a new post because everything has just been chaotic around here. We have gone to the fair, are in the midst of VBS, work is crazy right now….lots of changes, and I feel like everything is so crazy I haven’t even had the time to sit.

We had fun at the fair…it was considerably smaller than the Henry Co fair in Napoleon. Joe was scheduled to work the Lutherans for Life booth for 3 hours so we went on a little excursion. The kids rode 2 rides together, picked a rubber ducky from a tub of water and got a hedgehog, ate dinner (LOVE fair food!), played with the cutest little beagle (Shiloh) at the animal shelter booth, and pet the animals in the little petting “zoo” area. The tiny baby chicks were a huge hit with all the kids. I fear for what they will be like as chickens with how many times they were dropped by other children. Lily was adventurous enough to pet the goats and hold the chicks and the bunnies. She really wanted to pet the peacock, the pony, the calf, and the ducks but couldn’t reach them because they were hiding in the middle of the pen where she couldn’t reach. Smart animals!

IMG_2049This was the expression when we asked if he wanted to pet the bunny. The closer we got the more stressed he got. I asked him why and he said… “don’t want the bunny. He eat me.” I don’t know what that was all about!

The kids are really enjoying VBS.  Fortunately, this year they divided the kids up by age so Lily and Jake are both in the preschool class. I think that Joe is starting to get a little tired now. He is running part of it and I think having to be there with little kids is more wearing on him than the Colorado trip was.

We also had the second summerfest of the summer. This is the only picture I got. We had fun and were doing something almost the entire time. I finally remembered the camera towards the end. Ooooopsie! On a side note…I was part of the winning team for beanbags this time. Here’s to getting the same partner next month.

We got our new computer!! I am excited to report that it is all I hoped for and more. It will definitely take some getting used to but I think that we will be MUCH happier in the long run. I am in the process of trying to figure out what to do with the blog. Mac doesn’t support WLW and I have NO desire to stop using it. It seems to be the best program out there. Any suggestions?

That’s it for now! More later…

Happy Birthday…

to my favorite brother!!

He is a big 20 years old! Where has the time gone?

We miss you! Hope you have a great day!

Splishin’ and a splashin’

I love matching little girls!

10 months

That time again….

She seems to be growing in front of our very eyes. She has packed on almost 2 pounds in the last month. She is up to 18 lbs 2 oz now and back into the 25% for height and weight. Headsize is a whole other story. She is in the 75% for that. I have always said that this Dapelo family focuses on brains first, then hair. :)

She is still proudly sporting her four little teeth. I think there are more on the way. She LOVES to stand up and to walk along furniture. I am guessing that it won’t be long before she decides that she has had enough of the crawling. Jacob is a huge favorite right now. She loves to cuddle with him.

She is definitely exercising her right to a personality. She is getting so loud now. She has no problem letting her little voice be heard! I don’t think that anyone will be missing her in church! Bathtime is one of her favorite times and I am not sure if it is the nakedness, the brother and sister in there with her, or the ability to make me absolutely crazy with the splashing.

She still seems to be struggling with a little insecurity. I am hoping that next month I will be able to say that it is a thing of the past. She LOVES being outside and swinging is a HUGE hit! Also, she loves to give kisses and high fives. I think that is it for now.

The not-so-traditional 4th of July!

We woke up this morning to rain.

We contemplated going to the parade in rain.

We didn’t.

We went to the Arc’s Pork Chop Luncheon Fundraiser in the rain.

We came home and didn’t bbq in the rain.

We DID picnic in the rain.

We didn’t have fireworks in the rain.

We played Memory with the kids after their baths.

We are all done with the evening.
