The first of the homemade craft gifts is in its new home!
Rachel received her pillows today! I am so glad that you like them. You’ll have to let me know what the kids thought.
Hannah has gotten to be quite the little parrot. She likes to repeat anything that she hears. Case in point, last night while putting her to bed (when she didn’t want to go to bed) she shouted at me “don’t love you anymore” and then grunted in that way that just screams “so there!”. Needless to say, it hurt my feelings. Who wants to hear their child say those words??
On the more humorous side of it, she also likes to copy things that the older kids say. They try to get her to dance by telling her to shake her booty. She immediately obliges by shaking said piece of her anatomy. She has started saying it herself now and likes to run around telling everyone else what to do.
She also likes to shout “Whoa! That’s a low price!”. Thank you Staples commercial. We appreciate you so much!
Can you say mother of the year?
Yes, that is coffee. She LOVES it! The other day we were out and got the kids a little ice cream treat. Hannah only wanted to eat Joe’s chocolate espresso flavored ice cream. She isn’t going to grow to be much taller than she is now.
I just have to say that I love the look on Jacob’s face. What do you think is running through his mind right here?
Disclaimer: I am not responsible for the state of attire. They all dressed themselves this morning and no matter what I suggested they had better ideas. Maybe I shouldn’t have tried so hard to foster that independent spirit!!?? They are having lots of fun though and that IS the most important thing, right?
The kids updates. As follows.
Lily: She has been growing like a weed. She is NOT excited about the prospect of getting shots so that she can go to Kindergarten. She is loving life as the oldest kid in the family (that won’t last long) and is constantly playing mommy to Hannah. She is getting more of an attitude everyday it seems. Right now she really likes to sing songs, play outside, talk about when she can ride her bike without the training wheels, do crafts (daily, it seems), go to school, come up with decorating ideas for her room, etc etc. The list could go on forever. She is definitely a do-er.
Jacob: He is doing FABULOUSLY at going to the bathroom in the toilet. We are going on a week and a half with no accidents whatsoever. That is including trips that we have taken where he has had to sit in the car for extended periods of time. He had his first experience with peeing in a cup while we were at the park last week and let Joe know that in the future he would rather just pee on the grass. I know, it’s wonderful, and you really wanted to know that. Keeping it real! He is also one that prefers to be outside all day every day. I am more than happy to oblige. The house stays a lot cleaner when they are not in it. He has been having a hard time understanding why he isn’t in school yet. I get the questions as we go to drop Lily off every.single.time. Since he went in for his registration and orientation it has been a brutal ride. He continues to ask about his birthday (in October) and the baby “comin’ out to see me?”.
Hannah: She is 19 months now. She is growing like a weed. I think she has gone through 2 clothing sizes in the last 2 months. You have to understand that it is a miracle considering the fact that the child does not eat ANYTHING at all. Literally. You can pretty much take Lily’s list of things that she likes to do and insert Hannah’s name in front of it. She wants to do everything that Lily does and she wants to do it when Lily does. She is also on a matching kick. She wants to wear the same clothes as Lily everyday. Right now Lily thinks it is pretty special but I am anticipating the novelty of it all wearing off. She is still obsessed with shoes, clothes, purses, markers (or any other coloring thing including paint), and has a newfound love of dress up clothes. She screams “stop it” anytime someone looks at her funny or we have her do anything that is not in her plan for the day. If she ever sees anyone sleeping she considers it her responsibility to “help” them wake up. That is not appreciated in the least by the two older siblings. She is also all over the dandelions that seem to love our yard. I think they are pretty too so I can’t really fault her for that but she can’t walk by one without trying to pick it. It makes it a little hard to get her to focus on whatever we are doing or wherever we are going at the time.
Joe and I are doing great. I think that we are both suffering from exhaustion for different reasons. Isn’t it ironic that you have to force a child to take a nap when all you want to do is curl up and take one yourself?? We had the privilege of going to hear the Army band and choir when they came to town. It was a fun evening for us. A very kind family at the church gave us tickets and took the kids for the evening so that we could have a little time away. They were really good and it brought back memories of being in band in jr. high. I think I appreciated the music a lot more knowing how hard it is to play some things. It was a really entertaining evening. :)
Right now we are in the midst of a plumbing nightmare. If you follow this blog at all you already know that we have had some unfortunate issues in the past that have been resolved, we thought. Unfortunately we are finding out that they were not and that there may something that is a little bigger than originally anticipated. As I write this I am surrounded by the smell of sewage. Definitely something that you want to have lingering around your house, inside and out, on a daily basis. And it is even better when pregnant. I feel like I have flashed back to Bangladesh. :) Right at home! Anyway, we are hoping that the city will come out and do what they need to do so that the plumber can figure out once and for all why this continues to happen. Fortunately we have 2 bathrooms and haven’t had to evacuate the house due to no running water. Yet. I for one will be excited when it is all taken care of! :) Jacob keeps telling me “there is something that doesn’t smell good to my nose”. Poor little guy. He is super sensitive to smells and sounds so this has not been his favorite time either.
We were blessed with this dresser from some friends of ours when we lived in Napoleon. That was TWO years ago. I had always had this vision of updating it a little once we moved here. Never happened.
So, FINALLY, here it is. It took three days to finish it, mostly because it was such a dark color to start with. There are 3 coats of paint on it now and I let it dry overnight between each one so that it would turn out really nice.
I am so happy with it!
There is no before picture but it was a DARK forest green color and had little dollhouses stenciled on the drawers. Now it looks like this!
Lily has been begging for some sort of stencil or decal or some sort of bling on the drawers. I think that she misses the little houses. I really like the look of it right now but have taken it under advisement. Also, I think that it looks a lot brighter in the picture than it is in real life. Who knows. Does the color look like it could be called “Sassy Pink” to you?
The other little project is Hannah’s name. We have had Lily’s name in her room since we lived in Ohio. I have been wanting to do Hannah’s too but it is hard to find all her letters at one time and in a cute script. Finally, Laurie came through. She called on Wednesday as we were getting ready to go to Milwaukee and said that she had found letters to match Lily’s, they had all of them, and she was going to buy them! I was so excited! Painted them this morning, Hannah and Jake helped with the glitter. Again, the colors look really off. Maybe I should try taking the pictures with the light on in the room? Next time!
Didn’t they turn out cute?
Also, a little bit of praise for Joe. We have been working on clearing out the garage for a while and the GINORMOUS pile at the front of the garage of stuff to take to the dump, to goodwill, and for the rummage sale was quickly taking over the entire space. While I was in Milwaukee he took the seats out of the van and loaded it all up. A few trips later and we have a very LARGE clear space now that the kids have been reveling in (for riding trikes and bikes). There are not a lot of sidewalks around us and the parking lot at the church has been abnormally busy with all of the track meets going on at the school. I like it because I can send all three of them in there while making dinner without having to worry about Hannah running into the street.
Love it! Thank you honey! You are the best. It’s the big AND little things that remind me why he is my hero! :)
I got the news early yesterday morning that my mom’s cousin Beth Creason suddenly passed away.
We are keeping all of the family in prayer right now as we grieve with and for them.
In this time of sorrow we delight in the knowledge that she is rejoicing with our Father in heaven.

The kids and I hit the road on Wednesday after Lily got out of school for a little road trip to Milwaukee. Matt and Christie were out of town and Joe’s mom was there to be with their kids. We left Watseka in 70+ degree weather and got 2 days of snowing while we were there. I was NOT prepared for that! It did get nice towards the end of the visit.
We had lots of fun doing various Gramma crafty things… painting birdhouses, making candy, going to the bookstore, walk to the park, pizza, and of course lots of down time.
Enjoy the pictures!
We had too much fun, in spite of the truly terrifying kitty that is the newest member of the family there. Jake was not loving said kitty. Gramma was quickly appointed as chief comforter because I was heartless and told him to get over it. And that, my friends, is the difference between mommy and gramma.
Ok, so here is the problem. We have this happening on our porch.
More precisely, on our mailbox. And yes, we have tried moving it. This is now day 3 of this persistent little bird’s construction. Wouldn’t you look elsewhere to build your home if it got removed every day?
Suggestions????!!!! We are open to anything. Humanely of course. And quickly. I don’t think that we can move it if there are eggs in it.
I forgot to mention…
We bought Lily this!
Have I mentioned that I love THIS woman?
Lisa Leonard Designs! Amazing. I have a wish list a mile long of pretties that she makes and sells. When I saw this newest design of hers I just about died. I had a discount code and immediately bought it. She got it today and is so excited that she has a necklace with her name on it. :) Someday she will realize that the “bug” part isn’t technically her name but until then, it is too cute!
*Sorry the picture is so blurry. Maybe I can get a better one someday while she isn’t wearing it!
Check out her site! Beware, you will fall in love with something on it!
Happy Easter everyone! We had a wonderful day today! Breakfast at the church, church, egg hunt, lunch, activities with the kids in the afternoon, talking to grandparents/parents! All in all, good. We are wiped out now and it is only 6:00. Here’s to kids going to bed early. Maybe??!
The kids were in a cheesy mood. Can you tell?
And yes, this is as good as it gets. There was a lack of cooperation in the family picture department. Maybe we can get a cute one later.
So, that was our day in a nutshell. We had so much fun! Now we are getting ready for our jaunt to Milwaukee to see the Wisdaps and Gramma Laurie! It should be exciting!
Back story: When Joe and I got married, one of the things that he brought with him from his childhood was a little corduroy pillow that had his name on it. I immediately thought that it was cute, we put it out, and it has been out on a couch or a bed for years. I just washed it and now I can’t find it so I am not able to post a picture of it. I have always wanted to do them for our kids and have never had the time/motivation to do it. Until now.
So here they are. They will be part of the kids Easter baskets tomorrow.
I did have the kids pick out the colors for the pillows. They just don’t know what it was for. I am also contemplating adding a little something to the girls pillows like a flower or something. I don’t know if I should fancy them up or just leave them as is. The whole point was to mimic the one that Joe has so I am still thinking about it. :)
